Pilot contamination reduction in massive MIMO systems based on pilot scheduling
نویسندگان
چکیده
The pilot contamination caused by sharing the non-orthogonal pilots among users is considered to be a bottleneck of the massive multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems. This paper proposes a pilot scheduling scheme based on the degradation to address this problem. Through computing the degradation of the users, the proposed scheduling assigns the optimal pilot sequence to the user who suffers from the greatest degradation in a greedy way. Moreover, the proposed scheme is further optimized with an extra set of orthogonal pilot sequences, which is called pilot scheduling scheme based on user grouping. Simulation results show that the target cell’s achievable sum rate of the proposed scheme is much higher than the random pilot scheduling (RPS) and the smart pilot assignment (SPA) schemes; also, our scheme can reduce the impact of shadowing fading on the target cell’s achievable sum rate

Impact of Angular Spread in Correlated MIMO Channels under Pilot Contamination
Pilot contamination is known to be one of the main bottlenecks for massive multi-input multi-output (MIMO) networks. For moderately large antenna arrays (of importance to recent/emerging deployments) and correlated MIMO, pilot contamination may not be the dominant factor in certain scenarios. To the best of our knowledge, a rigorous characterization of the achievable rates and their explicit de...
متن کاملDesign of Orthogonal Uplink Pilot Sequences for TDD Massive MIMO under Pilot Contamination
—Massive MIMO has been acknowledged as a promising technology to counter the demand for higher data capacity for wireless networks in 2020 and beyond. However, each Base Station (BS) requires good enough knowledge of Channel State Information (CSI) on both the uplink and the downlink as massive MIMO relies on spatial multiplexing. In Time Division Duplex (TDD) massive MIMO systems, this CSI is...
متن کاملLocation-Aided Pilot Decontamination for Massive MIMO Systems
One of the key limitation of massive MIMO systems is pilot contamination, which is defined as the interference during uplink channel estimation due to re-use of the same pilots in surrounding cells. In this paper, we propose a location-based approach to the pilot contamination problem for uplink MIMO systems. Our approach makes use of the approximate locations of mobile devices to provide good ...
متن کاملPilot Contamination in Small-Cell Massive MIMO Systems
The increasing demand for wireless data services requires massive network densification which is neither economically nor ecologically feasible. The concept of cell-size reduction provides an effective and simple solution to this problem. Small-Cell Networks (SCN) are one of the promising architectures based on this idea. Generally, a SCN is a cellular network where the size of the cells are ve...
